Jack Durant

MA Student
RES Graduate Program
The University of British Columbia
Jack joined the RES graduate program and the Egesta research team in Fall 2019. He studied philosophy at the undergraduate level at the University of Cambridge in the UK. During his time studying philosophy, he found himself especially drawn to ethics, political philosophy and philosophy of mind. His final year research projects focused on the philosophy of mind – specifically on the supposed ‘explanatory gap’ between the fundamental building blocks of consciousness and its lived reality, and on the nature of emotions. Jack was hugely enthused to work with Gunilla and the team at Egesta Lab and had a chance to ground his theory-centred background in real-world environmental issues. His research intersected value-laden ontologies and their interactions with policy-relevant science.
